By modernizing a restrictive, undocumented legacy infrastructure, we helped a Canadian 5G telecommunications provider deliver a highly resilient and secure platform. The transformation eliminated vendor lock-in and budget constraints by replacing paid third-party tools with fully customized, open-source alternatives. We safeguarded the business by modernizing legacy infrastructure, migrating to reliable cloud storage, and automating manual workflows. These strategic upgrades enhanced system stability, significantly reduced operational costs, and boosted developer productivity for their operations.

Financial independence through open-source migration: We completely eliminated vendor lock-in and recurring licensing costs by replacing restrictive, paid Bitnami components with heavily customized community Helm charts. This shift granted the client full control over their infrastructure and long-term budget predictability.
Maximizing developer productivity via workflow automation: We eradicated administrative bottlenecks by engineering a custom Jenkins-to-Jira pipeline. By automatically syncing build statuses and removing manual ticket bookkeeping, the engineering team no longer loses time on cross-platform checking and can focus entirely on writing and deploying code.
Business continuity and infrastructure hardening: Safely moved critical software storage to a highly secure AWS environment and upgraded outdated servers to a modern standard. This created a highly secure, cloud-ready platform, achieved with zero system interruptions despite a complete lack of initial documentation.
The client is a prominent B2B telecommunications provider specializing in 5G network solutions and they needed a highly secure, cost-effective, and fully automated internal deployment platform to manage complex software pipelines and scale their operations.
However, to support their core operations and already existing legacy infrastructure, they required a strategic modernization approach that could eliminate costly vendor dependencies, upgrade end-of-life servers without service interruptions, and bridge the gap between their fragmented tools through custom automation and robust security guardrails.
Vendor dependency: Heavy reliance on paid Bitnami resources for core databases and authentication systems drained budgets by recurring licensing fees, and created inflexibility.
Security vulnerabilities and outdated systems: Critical workflows were running on End-of-Life servers (CentOS 7) incompatible with modern cloud integrations, while a reliance on unstable external storage registries frequently disrupted operations. Furthermore, a lack of automated code scanning had already led to accidental plain-text password leaks, exposing the business to severe security risks.
Inefficient workflows: A lack of synchronization between GitHub, Jenkins, and Jira forced developers to manually track build statuses. This administrative bottleneck significantly impacted developer productivity and slowed down the entire release cycle.
To resolve the existing infrastructure limitations and security vulnerabilities, our engineering team designed a comprehensive modernization strategy focused on transitioning to a fully open-source, automated ecosystem. The primary objectives of this transformation were defined by three strict operational targets:
Eliminate reliance on legacy paid charts to reduce infrastructure overhead.
Automate the entire build-to-ticket lifecycle to increase developer productivity.
Secure all internal infrastructure and deployment pipelines against credential leaks.
To break free from vendor lock-in, we custom-rebuilt Keycloak, MongoDB, and SQL Server deployments using official open-source Helm charts, rigorously validating each through end-to-end Kubernetes cluster reinstallations. To secure their software supply chain, we architected a robust hub-and-spoke AWS ECR environment via Terraform for a secure image registry. To ensure platform stability, we executed a complete infrastructure overhaul, safely migrating the core Jenkins build system from an End-of-Life OS to Ubuntu 24.04 and upgrading the networking layer to a highly available NGINX Gateway Fabric.
Furthermore, we enforced strict security by integrating automated PR scanning to instantly block plain-text credential leaks. Finally, after moving core repositories to GitHub, we built a custom webhook-free Jenkins polling mechanism to bridge internal network restrictions. This established a fully automated Jira lifecycle that instantly updates ticket statuses upon merge, completely eliminating manual tracking from the developers' daily workflow.
Following the end-to-end infrastructure overhaul, the client achieved immediate improvements in system reliability, developer productivity, and overall security posture. The modernization effort delivered the following core results:
Cost elimination: Removed 100% of third-party Bitnami licensing dependencies by transitioning to community Helm charts.
Accelerated developer workflows: Completely eradicated manual ticket bookkeeping through the custom Jira-Jenkins CI integration.
Hardened security posture: Secured the entire codebase and deployment pipeline through proactive TruffleHog scanning and a fully automated AWS ECR migration.
The stabilized, modernized Kubernetes infrastructure and automated CI/CD toolchain now position the internal engineering team to rapidly scale their 5G network development and handle increased deployment frequencies without facing legacy operational bottlenecks.
Operating as an embedded engineer within the client’s internal team, Redbee took ownership of the Kubernetes cluster deployments, the core migration project, and CI/CD pipeline automation. Confronted with a complete lack of documentation, our engineer collaborated with internal developers to reverse-engineer massive legacy scripts and proactively identified hidden technical blockers, such as the End-of-Life Jenkins server.
Rather than just executing predefined tasks, we optimized their deployment workflows and modernized the infrastructure alongside their existing team. By delivering a rigorously tested platform capable of both cost-effective on-premise and resilient cloud deployments, Redbee eliminated previous structural barriers, with the client’s CTO explicitly noting that our automation work helped their engineering team "advance a lot."
